The High Line

Updated: May 22, 2022

Hi guys, welcome to the Student Metro-card!

The first stop we have on our list is the High Line. At a distance of 1.45 miles long, the High Line follows an old rail line through the west side of Manhattan.

The High Line is unique because of its original purpose. It was built as a railroad in the 1934 West Side Improvement project, however when the railroad became less used leading to the abandonment of this track it was abandoned. Until the early 2000s there were calls to demolish the high line, but when it was realized how much greenery grew over the decades on the track it was decided to make the track into a recreational park.

Just imagine 70 years ago you would have been standing where a train was.

The High Line is also right next to both the Vessel and the shops, great places for photos and shopping! There is easy access to the 34th St Hudson-Yards subway station where you can take the 7 train and transfer at stops like Time Sq and 42nd St-Bryant Park. At one end of the High Line (Gansevoort St) is the Whitney Museum of American Art where you can get Pay What You Wish tickets on Fridays from 7-10pm.

(Above is a picture of the end of the high line and below is a photo of other nearby attractions!)

Below are two video’s of me showing the vessel and giving a brief summary of the high line!
