Hi guys! Welcome back to the Student MetroCard blog! Today we'll be visiting Astoria Park! Astoria Park is a great place to go with friends or by yourself just for a good time. We love going to the park because of how many different activities they have available.
We started at the entrance of the tennis courts where we found a few people playing tennis.
After that we walked over to the track surrounding the soccer field. If you like soccer, it's a great place to play and there's always space to sit if you'd just like to watch a game going on! There is also the track around the field which I'm sure people who like the run will enjoy, but you always just walk around the track if you'd prefer that instead.
There's a little workout section with some workout equipment. Throughout the park and even right outside the park. This is a great way to stay active at no cost if you would like to use gym equipment but are unable to afford a gym membership. Being out in the open air is better than being indoors at the gym anyways!
There are a few Citi bike stations where you can take out a bike and just go riding throughout the park. We took out some bikes and went riding, and it was definitely a fun time on such a beautiful day. A good fact to know about citibikes is that they offer discounted memberships for SNAP, NYCHA and students where the fee is as little as $5 a month. This is a great investment to get around Astoria and if you don't have a bike its a great way to get into biking or just using it at the park.
There is also a little library where you can borrow books and share books. It is owned by Little Free Library and you can learn more about it at
The triborough bridge playground has a playground for kids and has an open area. There are also volleyball nets if you'd like to play.
There's also the astoria pool and although it was closed at the time when we visited, it's open during the summertime so make sure to check it out if you're ever there during the summer! This pool actually has an interesting history as it was the site of the Olympic swimming and diving trials for the 1936 Olympics. So when you swim here you are swimming where olympians swam once!
There are usually ice cream trucks around the park so it's always a nice treat on hot days!
I've attached a video below where we talk a little bit about our experience at the park.
We hope you visit the park and if you have visited before we hope that you learned something new from this post about the park that will inspire you to go more often.
Thanks for reading!
